How Does 12V Heated Gear Work?

From installation to using your 12V heated gear.

VentureHeat offers a full line of heated motorcycle gear that is powered by the existing 12V battery found on a motorcycle or snowmobile.

For an example, let’s refer to the 12V Heated Jacket Liner. The 12V Heated Jacket Liner comes with a battery harness, a built in fuse, and temperature controller.

VentureHeat features a revolutionary micro-alloy heating fibers that do away with cables and coils running through the jacket.  The heating panels are pliable and flexible, allowing them to fit naturally inside of the liner without you even noticing them.

The heating elements are carefully positioned on the front, back, collar and sleeves of the jacket liner to speed up the body’s circulation and spread heat throughout your entire body.  The durable wind-resistant nylon fabric will protect you from the elements while the fleece collar helps to trap and keep heat on your body.

Installing the Battery Harness

Before you use the clothing, you must first connect the battery harness to the battery making sure that the power has been turned off.  Access the vehicle’s 12V battery by following the instructions in the vehicle’s owners manual.

Connect the battery harness to the terminals of the battery by removing the attachment screws then connecting  the red ring of the battery harness to the positive terminal and black ring to the negative terminal.   An SAE adapter can also be purchased to use with an existing battery tender.

Tuck the remaining wires under the seat and run the plug out to the left side making sure that at least a couple of inches from the plug to extend from the body of the vehicle.  The location and manner in which this is done will vary depending on the configuration of the vehicle and can also be attached to the frame using cable ties or electrical tape to secure the wire.  Return any vehicle body panels or equipment to their original location.

Using the Heated Jacket Liner

Once you have completed installing the battery harness, locate the input plug found inside of the jacket on the left side in the lower pocket.  Remove the plug from the jacket and connect the coax cable to the battery harness attached to the vehicle.

To use the included temperature controller to regulate the heat levels, connect the controller to the plugs found inside of the left side of the jacket.

To turn on the power, press and hold the power button for two seconds.  When first turned on, the controller will start on the maximum heat setting and will display a blue light.  To adjust the temperature, click the power button once to change the setting to the high setting with a red light. Click the button again to adjust the heat to a medium temperature with a yellow light and click the button again to change the heat to the low setting with a green light.  To turn the power off, press and hold the power button for two seconds until the lights on the controller turn off.

The controller can be tucked away inside the liner of the jacket, or attached to the vehicle itself depending on your preferences.

Additional Features

The same controller used to adjust the heated jacket’s temperature will also control our 12V heated gloves and heated glove liners.  To use the 12V heated gloves with the heated jacket liner, find the plug inside of the zippered pocket near the cuffs on the jacket.  Connect the coax cable from the heated jacket to the gloves and tuck any excess wire back into the sleeve of the jacket.

The 12V Heated Jacket Liner is also compatible with the 12V Heated Pant Liners using the same battery harness.  Simply purchase a Y adapter and connect both the heated jacket liner and heated pant liners into it.  The same is true if both you and a passenger are wearing heated gear.  See vehicle’s owners manual for power output information.

The total setup takes under 10 minutes to complete, but will keep you warm all year round.
